James Watt
James Watt, born in Scotland is credited of making the steam powered engine. Originally he was an instrument maker at a University but during his career, he had an interest in the technology of steam engines. A big part of the idea behind his interest was that he knew that the designs of engines that were used at the time wasted energy as you needed to continuously heat up and cool the cylinder, so he wanted to create a better engine. Watt had a newly designed where he had a separate condenser, which reduced the waste of energy and improved the power, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of steam engines. Years later he was able to create rotary motion with his new invention. This later helped others such as; Robert Fulton create the idea of the steam boat and Richard Trevithick create the idea of the steam locomotive using the same type of engine as James. James was having financial problems and needed help to support his invention and this is where he met Mathew Boulton who would become partners with Watt in 1775
